On 9/25/21 Jon Brennan of Falconflights volunteered flight time with his Mavic drone to help RHET produce video for construction planning and to contribute content for Project Horse Power.
Jon fought through slow Saturday traffic that is now jamming up the I5 to be onsite for the flight window.
Jon met with Mark Koenig onsite of the RHET construction site. The two Navy Veterans walked the site as Mark explained that the land had been in the family for 3 generations. Mark noted that his grandfather was a WWII Naval Aviator who flew ASW missions on PBY aircraft based out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
Right into the danger zone
While it is not fully understood at the time of this writing why the drone collision avoidance system did not alert the proximity of obstacles , the result was none the less an insurgent maple tree successfully downed the drone.
Jon and Mark established a search pattern and attempted a vertical inspection of the maple tree. While the drone was capable of transmitting a live image, the recovery team was not able to determine the precise location of the inverted craft before it’s battery supply expired.
Recovery operations will resume once climbing gear has been sufficiently sourced.
Thank you Jon Brennan, as a Mustang of the United States Navy you have exemplified the spirit of going above and beyond the call of duty for the mission.
The time and expertise that has been volunteered by you has added immeasurable value to the RHET mission that is built upon Veterans just like you. Bravo Zulu Sir “you can be my wingman any time” .
Go Navy
