Ride Home Equine Therapy – Vets Helping Vets
Our mission is to bring together two sentient beings seeking healing and companionship while working together towards a common goal. Equine therapy plays a key role in fulfilling this mission. Horses are keen observers, vigilant, and sensitive to movement and emotion. They often mirror a client’s behavior or emotions, conveying understanding and connection while also providing a sense of safety to the client.
Edward Asbert, while struggling with PTSD, was contemplating better ways to deal with the traumatic issues he endured while serving his country in the military and serving his community as a firefighter. He developed the idea of using horses to help his treatment, not yet aware of the practice of equine therapy. He recalled how his work around horses brought about a powerful sense of calm and safety.
During a group session over coffee, Edward Asbert began speaking with Mark Koenig, another veteran with similar issues, and Ride Home Equine Therapy (RHET) was born. Edward had a 20-acre ranchette years ago and working with horses helped him through those trying times and countless moments of extreme panic. It wasn’t until many years later he realized the profound impact horses had on his ability to cope with the many symptoms of PTSD.
RHETS operational facilities is located on land that has been owned by Veterans for 3 generations.
This is our Vice President Mark Koenig talking to the folks at Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association in Mount Vernon. This is another association that is Vets helping Vets. Being a veteran you can understand what another veteran has gone through.
